When Nobody Likes You
Is Christianity under attack in the United States? It is a question every citizen should ask regardless of your religious beliefs.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation is calling for chaplains to be removed from college sports programs citing that their presence increases the risk of discrimination against non-Christian students and that chaplains are given all-access to the programs just because they are “Christian clergy”.
This organization has previously gotten some high schools to prohibit local clergy from praying with teams prior to games, a practice many school districts have engaged in for decades.
Though chaplains and clergy are not paid and volunteer to work with sports teams and while participation on the part of any student is completely voluntary, the Freedom from Religion Foundation says that’s irrelevant. To them, the point is that these Christians have access to the students and can potentially influence their beliefs.
In the years since 9/11 our society has increasingly become hostile to Christianity. If you don’t support gay marriage or asexual bathrooms, you are a bigot instead of a devout Believer. And now people feel they need to limit the influence of Christian clergy. On the flip side, America wants to appear accepting of every other religion and lifestyle.
But Jesus tells us in the Bible that a house divided against itself shall not stand (Mark 3:25). Embracing every option there is will not stop terror attacks or make America a sympathetic figure in the eyes of Anti-American extremists.
In the last days there will be wars and rumors of wars and there is no way out or around this prophecy (Matthew 24:6). The only choice that we as individuals and as country have is to pick a side and stick with it. Either we believe in God’s Word and will stand on it or we will stand against it. There will be consequences either way.
Jesus said, “And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 10:22).
As Christianity comes under attack, we must decide not to compromise our beliefs and use the weapon of prayer to fight these attacks. The power of life and death is in your mouth (Proverbs 18:21). That’s why people are afraid of your influence. Speak to these situations in our country and pray that the will of God would be established.
