The Great Deliverer
I believe in social justice. While prayer is our most powerful weapon, I believe there are issues and movements happening in the world that the church should speak up about in an effort to stop injustice. Jesus cared about justice. He came to bring liberty from all manners of oppression, even political.
The Bible tells us, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” (Proverbs 31: 8-9).
So we must do battle in prayer and raise awareness when we can but I want to share a message of hope with the oppressed. I want to remind you that God is not blind, He sees all things and in due time He will judge all things.
It breaks my heart that there are people living on the streets without shelter. That doesn’t seem right at all. I am quite bothered that everyday millions of minorities get up and go outside to fear. Fear of being deported, fearing of being attacked because of their ethnicity, fear of being shot by police. Tears well up in my eyes when I think about how the same system that gave one group of people access to the American dream, took another group of people and systematically oppressed them and locked them into living out stereotypes.
But I go on each day, and continue to praise God because I know He will judge all things in His time. There was a day God decided that the Israelites would serve Pharaoh no more, and He delivered them. There was a day that the Holocaust ended. There was a day that slavery ended in America. God has a day on which the oppressed will be made free. We must pray and never lose hope.
I believe one should speak up for social justice but I cannot speak to how effective it will be on the hearts of men. But I know interceding for the oppressed through prayer can touch the heart of God and He will move.
God will deal with oppressors, do not lose hope.
“Certainly, it is right for God to give suffering to those who cause you to suffer. 7 It is also right for God to give all of us relief from our suffering. He will do this when the Lord Jesus is revealed, coming from heaven with his mighty angels in a blazing fire.” (2 Thessalonians 1:6-7, GW).
God is going to deal with the oppression in the world but you just make sure you belong to Him. Make Christ your Lord and Savior because His yoke is light (Matthew 11:30). I know it seems like there are systems and fractions that are impenetrable but nothing is out of the reach of God. Cry out to Him in your oppression and He will deliver you and He will take down the oppressors. He is, after all, the Great Deliverer!
