Talking Back to the Wrong Person
We’d never think of talking back to Jesus but one woman in the Bible wouldn’t take ‘no” for an answer and let everybody know it.
“Then Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading, ‘Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.’ But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away. ‘Tell her to go away,’ they said. ‘She is bothering us with all her begging.’ Then Jesus said to the woman, ‘I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel.’ But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, ‘Lord, help me!’ Jesus responded, ‘It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.’ She replied, ‘That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.’ ‘Dear woman,’ Jesus said to her, ‘your faith is great. Your request is granted.’ And her daughter was instantly healed.” (Matthew 15:21-28).
We’re spending too much time talking back to the wrong people. In these days of social media, people expend so much energy “talking’ back to people, expressing their like or dislike for this thing or that. We fuss and argue with friends and family just to make a point. And overall, people today are easily offended and quick to feel disrespected.
We need to take a lesson from this woman in the Bible. Demand an answer from the One who can really help you, not people who can’t even help themselves. When someone has the power to help you, don’t take the offense, take the help instead.
Jesus very politely used an analogy about dogs to dismiss this woman but she didn’t take the offence and walk away. She didn’t go on a YouTube rant. She didn’t post on FB or tweet how unfair Jesus was and how His disciples are mean and unprofessional. No. She said I will humble myself and be a dog because even the dog gets the crumbs from the table and I am so desperate for help I will take a crumb!
Have you ever considered that certain situations in your life haven’t changed because you are not desperate enough to change? I know you may be in pain, may be broke and may be frustrated but are you desperate for divine help? Because when you are desperate for God’s help, you are humble and persistent like the woman who just kept talking back to Jesus.
So stop talking back to the wrong people and begin to talk to the One who can change your life forever! Be blessed!
