Seeing the Unseen
Nichelle Nichols played the groundbreaking role of Lt. Uhura on Star Trek. But behind the scenes she faced racism and sexism on the job. She seriously wanted to quit early in the series but found the resolve to stay in a most interesting source. It was Dr. Martin Luther King who convinced Nichols to stay on Star Trek. He told her she had to stay because she was part of history.
Sometimes you must recognize when something is bigger than you, sometimes you must be able to see some of the fine connections involved in your decisions. Salvation is a personal gift given to you for your eternity and for your life on earth to be blessed. But we are also fitly framed together (Ephesians 2:21), so how you live for Christ impacts the entire Body and yes, even the world.
The evil in the world now is great and you cannot give up because you are part of history and eternity. For all you Christians out there facing trials right now I write this to encourage you not to give up! Your prayers are needed. The example you can provide is needed. Your testimony is needed. Your gifts and talents are needed. You are needed to turn this generation back to God and bring in the end-time harvest.
Paul tells us, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).
We must look to the unseen. All the people that God wants you to impact and affect, people you may still have to meet. You must look at the impact of your prayers on the forces of darkness. You must understand that you have a role in God’s plan of salvation beyond your personal experience. So as the world grows darker, hold on to your light and keep progressing in the gospel. Take courage brothers and sisters. And having done all, stand (Ephesians 6:13)!
