Remember Why You Started
I saw a gentleman wearing a T-shirt that said, “Don’t Give Up. Remember Why You Started.” T-shirt wisdom can catch you off guard but I instantly went into thought over this one. You can be going through a test of faith, you can feel a little burned out or you may be totally absorbed by the daily grind of life. Whatever the reason, we all face times when we feel like giving up on our faith or maybe just taking a step back in our service.
But as the T-shirt starkly reminded me, we can’t give up. Go back to why you started your walk with Christ. Yes, some of us just inherited the act of going to church from childhood but even in spite of that we have all had a moment, an event, a loss, something that drove us to the cross which is beyond going to church.
We must guard against getting into routines and being busy and understand that our faith is organic, like a plant which starts with a seed. That seed is the thing that drove us to our knees. That thing that would have crushed us had we not encountered Jesus Christ. It is different for each of us but no less powerful. That’s where we get our inspiration when we are burned out or when our faith is tested. You’ve got to remember that the same God that got you through that time, that saved you in that dark moment, is still the same God today, tomorrow and forever. He will get you through whatever you face now and in the future.
God told Moses to encourage Joshua and Moses did this by reminding him and all of Israel of what God had done already. That’s where your encouragement lies, in what God has already done. It builds your faith and it encourages others to believe that God will help them too.
Your testimony is powerful. It can overcome doubt, fear and all the tactics of the enemy.
“Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:10-11).
So take time every day to thank God for what He has already done in your life and tell Him how much you trust Him to accomplish even greater things in your life. It will get you through the tough times and keep you from just going through motions because every day you will gain a deeper gratitude for God’s plan for you. Be blessed!
