Guarding the Gates
The internet was abuzz this weekend over a Christian mom who made a YouTube ‘rant” about a rap song she heard her 11-year old daughter listening to on the radio. The song is full of profanity and is misogynistic. She was very upset that children are listening to this kind of music and warned parents to find out what their kids are listening to.
Well, her plea back fired in the the sense that the internet attacked her for “living under a rock” because all music basically is filled with profanity these days. And of course because the rapper is Black, some played the race card against her. No matter whether you feel she was overly dramatic or what, she makes a very valid, important point. We need to monitor what we as adults and what our children are watching and listening to.
The reason why is that we can be subjected to demonic oppression through our gates which are our eyes, ears, skin, mouth, nose and sexual organs. Basically any openings on our bodies. Everything has a spirit attached to it. If a song is all about fulfilling sexual lusts then a spirit of lust is attached to that song. When I was younger, I remember listening to certain songs that made me feel sad and since being delivered from depression I cannot hear those songs, no matter how much I used to like them, I no longer have any desire to hear them because the spirit of sadness is no longer in my life.
So allowing our kids to listen to any genre that’s filled with sex and profanity can be exposing them to demonic spirits that can wreak havoc in their lives; same for watching horror movies or pornography. There are demonic spirits attached to those things that can get into your life.
The Bible tells us there are only three things in this world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Jesus said that if you look upon another woman lustfully it is adultery (Matthew 5:27).
So you see our gates can be impacted by what we see, hear, touch, and smell. In working with people recovering from drug addiction, many will tell you that they can just be sitting somewhere and smell the drug as if it were in front of them, forcing them to have cravings.
As you pray for deliverance remember to pray that all demonic oppression be removed from all your gates.
This is a really important conversation to have in your family as halloween approaches. All that halloween decorating and costumes can hold demonic spirits waiting to get into your family’s home and cause all kinds of problems. So protect your family by protecting your gates.
Paul gave the best advice. “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8). Be blessed!
